I've always loved birds but until this project, I hadn't heard of this particular raptor. I immediately fell in love with it's sleek shape and beautiful color. The Everglade Snail Kite flies with their head down looking for apple snails–needles in a marshy haystack. These raptors range from Florida to Argentina and were globally endangered for the past 50 years. Currently they are only locally endangered in the Florida Everglades where the depletion of apple snails has reduced their population to a few hundred breeding pairs.
