Golden Gate National Recreation Area
By Wesley Bird
I am an Illustrator and Art Director currently living it up in sunny Los Angeles, California, where I spend my 9 to 5 at Society6 and freelancing for rad clients like Urban Outfitters, Converse, etc...all while listening to true crime podcasts (um, "Sword and Scale" anyone?!). When I'm not working or stuck in LA traffic, I design and sell pins and patches, hike with my husband, and take hundreds of Instagram Stories of my dog, Tom Sawyer (sorry followers). I spent the better part of my middle and high school years living in East Bay San Francisco, which led me to select Golden Gate NRA as my park of choice for this project!
I've always loved the beautiful split personality of San Francisco. On one end you have the laid-back California vibes and on the other, the fast-paced tech world. The physical layout of Golden Gate NRA bridges that same divide. Butting right up to the hectic city is this insane nature park and when you're in it you can feel totally removed. My sister-in-law and her husband live in The Presidio, which is actually inside the park, and it always blows my mind how peaceful and enveloping it is when we visit. I really wanted to capture those laid-back vibes in my design, while still maintaining some sophistication through use of color and lettering treatment.
